How do I update my drivers without being charged with something like detective driver?

Driver Detective

Chosen Answer:

Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Microsoft Update.
When @ Microsoft Updates, click the ‘Custom’ button, not the ‘Express’.
This will give you hardware & software updates specific to your unit (hence the necessity to allow the ‘Active X’).
Express gives Windows operating system updates.

Tip: When your system is behaving itself, do a driver backup to a single CD so you can get to them again.
It gets harder and harder to find them, and many places charge to get them.
I use WINdrivers; excellent & free, from “PC World” here:

Use the ‘back up all drivers’ for the first BU; & keep it with your unit.

  1. Mercuri says:

Use a program like Unknown Devices to check what drivers you need and then go to the manufacturer’s website and install the latest drivers for your hardware.
