I’ve tried google, searched Hitachi and all I seem to get our offers to download a driver detective programme which costs almost as much as the camera did. I just need to install my camera on my new laptop. It’s an Hitachi HDC-57IES. Please help!! Going on holiday next week and would really like to be able to take pictures.
I’m assuming you have already tried just attaching the camera to the computer and letting the New Device Wizard install it, making sure you are connected to the internet at the same time so that the Wizard can search for any driver it needs. (I’m sure you have already done that, but got to say it just in case).
Your’re right, even Hitachi Worldwide has no reference to this camera, but all is not lost. Buy a USB card reader appropriate to the type of memory card used by your camera (or maybe your laptop already has one). Download the free program Picasa 3 from Google and Picasa will transfer all the photos from the card to the computer automatically (using the import command). I highly recommend Picasa 3 for viewing, basic editing and cataloguing digital photos. I have 4 different digital cameras in my family and I never have to use the software that came with the cameras – Picasa does it all.
